YELLOW II

Reduction in Coronary Yellow Plaque, Lipids and Vascular Inflammation by Aggressive Lipid Lowering

Clinical Trial

This study examined changes in plaque structure using intravascular imaging, alongside an in-depth analysis of cholesterol efflux capacity (CEC) and gene expression profiles in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of patients undergoing high-dose statin treatment.

The study revealed a link between increased fibrous cap thickness and enhanced cholesterol efflux capacity (CEC), suggesting that these factors contribute to plaque stabilization in patients on intensive statin therapy. Additionally, notable changes in the PBMC transcriptome may provide insights into how statins promote plaque stabilization.
